Muscat – Mercedes-Benz Oman has become the exclusive automotive sponsor of the Oman School League, the first official football league for all public and private schools in the Sultanate. Stemming from the global automobile manufacturer’s long-standing commitment to youth empowerment and development, this new partnership will look to discover Oman’s next generation of football stars from over 5,000 participating students across the country. 

“Mercedes-Benz Oman is delighted to sponsor the Oman School League, a fantastic and inspiring initiative that will benefit young people across the Sultanate. In doing so, we are proud to play our part not just in the future of football in Oman, but in the development and success of its talented youth,” commented Lawrence Good, Mercedes-Benz Oman CEO.

Organised by the Oman School Sports Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Al Swayni Sports Services, the Oman School League aims to develop the football talents of young players between the ages of 15 and 18 years and establish an effective career development program sport talents . Starting on 30 of October 2016, the League will run a nation wide tournament involving 250 schools from across the Sultanate in addition to conducting workshops and matches that will offer players the exposure, training and education needed for them to develop their talents and nurture their passion for football.

Mercedes-Benz Oman CEO added: “Our philosophy is ‘The Best or Nothing’ and we believe the Oman School League will bring out ‘the Best’ in all the young people who take part. We are eager to see how their football skills progress and the contribution this will undoubtedly make to the standard of football in the Sultanate’s schools and beyond. But also, and importantly, we look forward to seeing the other lessons they will learn as they train, practice and compete together – the importance of preparation, strategy, discipline, respect, and teamwork. Mastery of these qualities is something we admire and adopt at Mercedes-Benz.”
