Mercedes-Benz retains World Car of the Year Title: earns triple success at 2015 World Car Awards

  • Mercedes-Benz C-Class wins 2015 World Car of the Year award
  • Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé wins 2015 World Luxury Car award
  • Mercedes-AMG GT wins World Performance Car award

Following a successful start to the year globally, Mercedes-Benz garnered three awards at the recent World Car Awards, including the coveted 2015 World Car of the Year, this time for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The luxury automotive marquee scooped the same award in 2014 for its flagship S-Class. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé was also declared the 2015 World Luxury Car, while the Mercedes-AMG GT earned its rightful accolade as the 2015 World Performance Car. The 2015 World Car Awards are organised in association with New York International Auto Show, Bridgestone Corporation and Autoneum and judged by an international jury panel.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class was chosen from an initial entry list of 24 vehicles from around the world, progressing to the short list of twelve, before being selected as one of three finalists. The World Car Awards jurors recognised the C-Class for taking its design and technological cues from the S-Class but at the same time employing an all-new aluminium/steel hybrid platform and updated rear-drive powertrain that delivers levels of refinement, luxury, safety, ride and handling to challenge the best-in-class.

“We’re really proud of our accomplishments – being the only automobile manufacturer to make it into the final round of the awards with five models nominated and being selected for three awards is a remarkable achievement for us. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class embodies modern automotive luxury, delivers top performance and offers high levels of quality, comfort and safety. We’re also proud to see the S-Class Coupé named the 2015 World Luxury Car and the Mercedes-AMG GT as the 2015 World Performance Car,” said Dirk Fetzer, Director of Sales & Marketing at Daimler Middle East & Levant

Mercedes-Benz is no stranger to the World Car Awards program – now in its 11th year. This is the second consecutive year that Mercedes-Benz has won the World Luxury Car title. The company won last year’s inaugural award for the S-Class when the new category was created to acknowledge higher-priced premium models selling in more limited numbers worldwide. The company has also won two World Green Car awards for the S 250 CDI Blue EFFICIENCY in 2012 and for the Mercedes-Benz E320 Bluetec in 2007.

S-Class: true design and technological icon

This year’s World Luxury Car winner was chosen from an initial entry list of 12 prestigious cars from all over the world, with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé reaching the finals against the BMW i8 and the Range Rover Autobiography Black LWB. The World Car Awards jurors deemed the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé the 2015 World Luxury Car for its exceptional marriage of design and technology.

Mercedes-AMG GT: Driving performance for sports car enthusiast

Candidates for the World Performance Car award are required to demonstrate a specific and overt sports/performance orientation while meeting the same availability criteria as for the World Car of the Year award. The Mercedes-AMG GT was chosen from an initial entry list of 12 cars from all over the world, shortlisted to 10 cars, before reaching the finals against the BMW M4 Coupe/M3 Sedan and Jaguar F-Type R Coupe. Its on-road presence alone is almost enough to qualify it as a ‘Top 3’ finalist, but in addition to its ruggedly handsome looks it has an impressive spec sheet comprising biturbo 4.0-litre V8 engine, seven speed dual-clutch transmission, 456bhp (minimum) and much more.
