Mercedes-Benz Cars Middle East sponsors WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017

Inspiring youth at the world’s biggest technical and vocational skills competition

Driven by the pursuit of excellence, Mercedes-Benz Cars Middle East is supporting WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017, the first-ever global skills competition in the Middle East and North Africa, as an official sponsor.

The ongoing Competition has been organised by Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET) under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The Competition aims to inspire young people to study technical education and vocational skills to enhance social and economic advancement, and contribute to sustainable development in a globalised world.

The WorldSkills Abu Dhabi Competition has nearly 1,300 competitors from 60 Member countries and regions, who are competing in 51 skill sets, falling into six categories such as construction and building technology; creative arts and fashion; information and communication technology; manufacturing and engineering technology; social and personal services, and transport and logistics.

Mercedes-Benz Cars Middle East is sponsoring the “Car Painting” category, challenging entrants to restore a damaged vehicle to its original finish, matching colours, shades and textures exactly, in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

Thilo Grossmann, Director of After-Sales, Mercedes-Benz Cars Middle East, said: “WorldSkills is an essential platform to highlight the importance of vocational skills and technical education for young people across the globe and within the region. Skilled craftsmen and engineers are the backbone of Mercedes-Benz, who live and breathe our philosophy of ‘the best or nothing’, and through supporting such events, we hope to inspire the next generation.”

At the event, visitors can experience the thrill of an AMG drive through the Mercedes-AMG driving simulator and see up-close the latest Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 4MATIC, the first compact SUV from Mercedes-Benz. A Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG engine is also on display. Skill-related activities will put students to the test with reaction and precision assessments, as well as informative sessions on tire pressure checks.
