Featuring nine forward speeds, this automatic transmission takes efficiency, comfort and dynamics to a completely new level. It is the world's first 9-speed automatic transmission with hydrodynamic torque converter in the premium segment. The wider ratio spread allows a reduction in engine speed. Performance remains excellent, while ride comfort is enhanced and noise levels are reduced. Faster shift changes allow even more spontaneity and agility.
The Cabriolet has the option of AIR BODY CONTROL multi-chamber air suspension. Thanks to three chambers of different size in the spring struts of the rear axle and two in the spring struts of the front axle, the driver can control the hardness of the suspension in three stages. In this way, the occupants enjoy soft basic suspension, along with the secure feeling of good handling stability at higher speeds.
This suspension with selective passive damping system ensures well-balanced ride comfort by optimising ride characteristics, damping effect and stabilisation according to the road surface conditions. Lowering the suspension by 15 mm improves driving stability, particularly in corners, due to the lower centre of gravity and gives the vehicle a sportier look.

Using the DYNAMIC SELECT switch, the driver is able to change the vehicle's damping properties. The adjustment options provide a wide spread between comfortable, sporty and very sporty configurations. The driver has a choice between 3 stages, "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport+". The damping effect of the shock absorbers is increased in "Sport" and "Sport+" modes. The harder suspension tuning allows a more dynamic driving style with a still high level of comfort.

The optimised 4-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine deployed for the first time in the E-Class, impresses with its top level output and torque. The tried and tested combination of direct injection and exhaust gas turbocharging, coupled with a further refined combustion process and on demand controlled ancillaries help reduce consumption and emission levels even further as The ECO start/stop function is standard on both models.
The V6 engines were developed using lightweight materials throughout and feature stratified petrol injection with piezo injectors, four valves per cylinder as well as adjustable camshafts for the intake and exhaust valves.
This powerplant from the BlueDIRECT engine family can offer lower fuel consumption and correspondingly lower emissions than its predecessor. This is thanks largely to the lightweight design, downsizing to a displacement of 4.7 litres, direct petrol injection with exceptionally fast and precisely controlled piezo injectors and pioneering BlueEFFICIENCY technologies.
